This historic three-story building is being transformed into a 28-unit apartment community featuring six one-bedroom and 22 two-bedroom units. CPC (Community Preservation Corporation) is also committing permanent financing. The project includes a $140,000 grant through the Onondaga County Housing Initiative Program, supporting private housing development across Onondaga County.

Originally built in 1907 and closed in 1964, the Taft School was purchased by Skinner Properties in 2023 from American Legion Post 1276 and is now entering its next chapter.

The Community Preservation Corporation (CPC) has provided a $4.5 million construction loan to Skinner Properties to redevelop the former William Howard Taft School in Syracuse’s Eastwood neighborhood.

“This building has been part of the Eastwood neighborhood for over a century, and we’re excited to give it a new purpose that meets the needs of today’s residents,” said Stephen Skinner, Owner of Skinner Properties. “We’re grateful for CPC’s support and for the County’s investment through O-CHIP, which helps make this redevelopment possible.”
